PA Politics: Dr. Oz holds a rally in Elizabethtown

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Republican Senate candidate Dr. Mehmet Oz held a rally at the Stone Gables Estate in Elizabethtown, Pa.

Oz was joined by other Pennsylvania politicians, including State Senator Ryan Aument, former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark Carla Sands and Congressman Lloyd Smucker (PA-11).

Sands emphasized the importance of voter turnout in this election, asking the crowd to encourage others to go to the polls on Election Day.

“There’s a lot of old folks in Lancaster County,” she said. “There are a lot of Amish brothers and sisters. I want you to offer to drive them to the polls on Tuesday.”

Next, Smucker spoke about the role of Pennsylvania as a swing state, holding voters responsible to elect officials, Oz specifically, that can change the direction the country is headed.

“This is an agenda that holds government accountable and gives voices back to the people,” he said to an excited crowd. “The path to victory in the House and the Senate runs right through Pennsylvania.”

The Congressman then introduced Oz, who gave a short speech that mainly centered on the economy and crime. He talked about energy independence, as Pennsylvania is a leading producer of coal and natural gas in the country.

“Right here in Pennsylvania, we’ve got the solution right beneath our feet. We can unleash energy in Pennsylvania,” Oz said.

The Republican then focused on the rising crime and drug crisis that affects many Pennsylvanians—especially those in cities such as Philadelphia.

“Pennsylvania is top five in the country in fentanyl overdose death rates, no one is spared, but these terrorist organizations will be shut down if we put our mind to it,” Oz said.

He also emphasized that when in office, he plans to make the streets safer by securing the border to end drug trafficking.

“There was enough fentanyl taken at the border, confiscated at the border, to have killed every American alive,” Oz warned.

Like those who spoke before him, Oz also stressed the importance of going out to vote. Many news outlets and politicians have called this race the most crucial election in the country, as it may determine which party controls the Senate.

“The reason Pennsylvania is so important is we’re perfectly purple,” Oz said. “Right? Our neighbors are Democrats, and we’re going to win this election because we’re going to get those neighbors, conservative democrats, in particular, independents, to vote with us because they don’t like what’s happening to the country.”

Throughout the campaign, the race’s outcome has been too close to predict, highlighting that voter turnout is crucial for each candidate.
