The Office of Students Activities (OSA) has always found a way to create entertaining activities for both students and Elizabethtown College’s staff to enjoy. Game night is one of these activities.
On February 9th, the OSA game night took place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.in the Jay Lounge. This event brought many of various groups around campus to come together and enjoy a night of fun and relaxation. The OSA coordinators for this event had in mind while organizing to do something different to reach a different level of interest and a different audience.
Coming into a room filled with laughter and pure joy is very welcoming and important. As midterms come around the corner, students want to spend an evening not thinking about assignments or reviewing materials. Everyone has a main goal to have fun at this event, but that could not have happened if the OSA did not have an amazing team. They can transform an environment into a safe and positive place for anyone.
A large number of people attended the game night, including groups of friends and single people who were just eager to play the different games that were available, which included “Uno”, several board games, ”Super Smash Bros.” on the Nintendo and giant “Jenga”.
When asked about their motivation for attending, the majority of participants stated that these gatherings allow them to leave their rooms and take a brief break from studying in order to refuel. Events such as these are always anticipated by them to keep them occupied during the school year. The OSA claims that this Game Night is the second out of three during the school year, so be on watch for the last one to come.
Schumy J. Pascal, a second-year with a major in public health and a minor in technical design commented on the event
“I am not much of a gamer but coming here was refreshing, spending time with friends in a room that has a good aura to in it.” Pascal said. Many people around agreed with her statement.
“If I knew that OSA’s events were this fun, I would have attended each one of them. From now on I will come to as many events as I can,” Sarah Smith said. Smith is a first-year majoring in engineering, with a concentration in electrical engineering.
Those in attendance were remarkably grateful for the opportunity to express themselves through games.
“Until today, I never knew that I would one day play ‘Super Smash Bros.’ with my residence assistant,” a commenter said.
As usual, OSA performed a fantastic job with this event, and they will undoubtedly do so again with the numerous events that are still to come before the end of the school year.
The OSA has many other activities lined up in its calendar. For people who love to listen to poetry or are interested in it, they are welcome to attend the event coming up soon. And for those who would love to play again or give it a try, OSA’s famous Game Night is also approaching soon.
