Etown holds job and graduate school expo for students

Elizabethtown College has various opportunities for students to make connections within their majors by helping them look for jobs in the student’s near future. One of these ways Etown helps its students connect is with the Job, Internship and Graduate School Expo, which was held by the Career Development Center on Oct. 25.

At the Job, Internship and Graduate School Expo, students of all majors were able to walk around the multiple tables set up with different organizations. This was Etown’s largest Job, Internship and Graduate School Expo, hosting 120 employers to connect with and recruit students.

Prior to the fair, the Career Development Center held an event to help students prepare for the fair. Students were able to drop in to craft their elevator pitch and practice with employers, browse the career closet, learn how to research the employers that attended the Job, Internship and Graduate School Expo and ask questions.

More than 160 students were able to attend the fair and talk with employers about potential career opportunities. If events like the Job, Internship and Graduate School Expo spark some interest, it is important to know how to sign up for a future event. The Career Development Center uses a system called Handshake which allows students to sign up for the event. Handshake is also used to receive personalized job recommendations, connect with alumni and other employees at organizations that interest you and get an inside look at jobs and employers with thousands of student reviews.

On the Etown website under the Career Development Center, there are tips provided to make the most of a job fair. They include reviewing the list of employers, keeping an open mind, arriving early, dressing professionally, creating a resume, developing a sales pitch, asking questions, getting business cards and following up after the fair. This Job, Internship and Graduate School Expo was a great opportunity for both the students and the employers.
