On April 17, Etown held the 46th annual Student Awards Ceremony. During this celebration of campus community achievement, various offices commend students, faculty and staff for their accomplishments during the previous academic year. Some of the offices present are the Office of Housing & Residence Life, the Center for Civic and Community Engagement (CCCE), the Chaplain’s Office, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging (DEB), Student Assembly, the Office of Student Activities (OSA) as well as overall Distinguished Student Awards and the Points of Distinction Award – the highest Student Life honor a student can receive at Etown.
The Distinguished Student Awards are given to two students from each class year who showcase the integration of the four signature learning attributes at Etown, which include relationship-centered learning, international and cross-cultural perspectives, real-world learning and purposeful work.
From the winners of the Distinguished Student Awards, one person will receive the Points of Distinction Award. This award is given to the student that is believed to have shown the integration of the four signature learning attributes to the highest degree.
Students are nominated for these awards through faculty, staff and/or other students. Upon being nominated, students are asked to submit an application that includes an essay which focuses on a major learning experience that describes their time at Etown and the different influential experiences they had during their years at the College.
The Student Assembly awards faculty and students who were deemed exceptional in their field during the Student Awards Ceremony. An example of these awards is the Richard Crocker Award, which rewards an outstanding faculty member for their dedication to engaging students both inside and outside the classroom, allowing them to foster a meaningful relationship with their students. The Student Assembly also provides awards for Etown clubs and organizations. The awards are given based on three categories: Impactful Service, Exceptional Event, and Outstanding Engagement.
OSA awards students who have worked towards providing a robust student experience on campus. Some of the awards included are the OSA Advisor of the Year Award, the OSA Leadership Award and the OSA Leader on the Horizon Award.
Housing and Residence Life Awards are given to honor the students who have left an impact on their residential communities and their peers. The winners of these awards are decided by the Community Living staff. One of the awards given is the Housing and Residence Life Legacy Award, which is given to a student who has made a lasting impact on their residential communities.
The CCCE, DEB and the Chaplain’s Office provide awards for students who demonstrate a commitment to benefiting the lives of other students, advocating for social justice and working towards making Etown’s campus more inclusive. Each of these offices have unique awards that are used to honor students who went above and beyond in their work as a campus leader.
While celebrating the achievements of the campus community, we also celebrated the hard work that Amy Berra, Senior Assistant to Student Life, and other Student Life staff put into hosting such an event that provides memorable experiences for the campus community. Without their unwavering commitment to providing students with a great Etown experience, we would not have been able to gather together and celebrate everyone’s achievements. Campus community members are encouraged to check the Etown News website in the upcoming weeks for the published list of award winners.
