Elizabethtown College is having a ‘Lecture Series’ over the next few months with four internationally recognized and acclaimed speakers.
David Hogg
Gun control activist and survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, Hogg gained notoriety after recording a video of himself and his classmates weighing in on gun violence prevention during an active shooter in his high school. “I was really thinking about, ‘What has my impact been? What have any of our impacts been?’ … I thought to myself, ‘If I die today, I want my impact to be–if I die I want to tell a good story,’” he said. Hogg bravely used his experience as a platform to advocate for change. Now, Hogg is co-founder of March for Our Lives, a student-led organization that advocates for gun control. He attends Harvard University where he majors in political science.
Hogg’s lecture will occur in the Leffler Chapel and Performance Center on Oct. 26, 2023, at 7 p.m.
Olivia Troye
White House whistleblower on the Coronavirus Task Force for the Trump Administration, Troye risked everything to do what she believed was right. Troye served as former Vice President Mike Pence’s Homeland Security and Counterterrorism advisor, as well as the lead staff member on the Coronavirus Task Force. Troye believed the government’s pandemic response under the Trump administration was “being derailed by the person at the very top.” Following Troye’s resignation from her White House roles, she received death threats, lost friends and was vilified on social media. “Even if it means giving everything up, it’s important to do the right thing for the greater good,” she said. Troye is now director for the Republicans for Voting Rights and the Republican Accountability Project.
Troye’s lecture will take place in the Leffler Chapel and Performance Center on Feb. 1, 2024, at 7 p.m.

John’s lecture will take place at the Lancaster Marriot at Penn Square in Lancaster, Pa. on March 27, 2024 from 5-8:30 p.m. Registrations for the event open in Dec. 2023.
Jemele Hill
