What were Elizabethtown College students doing this summer?

With the close of summer and beginning of the new school year, Elizabethtown College students have started to return to the daily schedule of classes, extracurriculars and career-building for the school year. While all of these activities are important, it can also be equally important to recognize and remember the possibilities that summer can bring. From vacations to jobs to exciting opportunities to travels, Etown students across the board were busy making memories this summer in a variety of ways!

According to a poll sent out over the Jays App, the majority of respondents had a summer job or internship keeping them busy while not in school. It seems that students had a wide variety of professional development opportunities over the past few months, from laboratory assistants to museum interns to working for their local newspapers. Much of this work took place off campus, but some students remained on campus as well, working for the College or completing SCARP projects with professors. Whether far from Elizabethtown or nearby, many students were engaging in important work while not in class.

While summer is often highlighted as a time to relax and unwind, only a few of our poll respondents reported going on vacation this summer. Some students may have made their way to the beach or around the country for trips throughout the summer, but it seems that on the whole the campus community was hard at work. This just proves how dedicated Etown students are to their education, professional development and goals! The accomplishments of students are often well-noted throughout the school year as opportunities present themselves, but these achievements seem to have carried themselves into the summer months as well. No doubt the past few months have given many students opportunities for growth, learning and discovery outside the classroom (and, for those who took May term or summer courses, within it, too).

In addition to completing internships, summer jobs and more, some students had the opportunity to explore the world far away from Etown. Job opportunities took students across the country and study abroad took some students across the ocean. For example, one group of students took their studies to England, where they spent two weeks exploring literary landmarks across the country.

Overall, it seems that the Etown community has stayed dedicated, motivated and ambitious in their goals. Students have made a number of impressive accomplishments, developed new skills and made new memories in their time away from campus. Of course, as the summer comes to a close, it can be difficult to adjust to the change in routine between summer and school. However, as students settle into the semester, it is obvious that they can look back upon their summer experiences with a sense of pride. In addition, as they turn their attention towards the future, students will find many more opportunities and memories coming their way. Whether away from campus or on it, Etown students are sure to find ways to get involved in scholarship, professional development and more opportunities for success while also having some fun.
