This week, many Elizabethtown College students could be spotted enjoying the warm weather around campus. Once again, students studied under the shade of trees, enjoyed meals on the Baugher Student Center patio and played games in the grass. While the overcast weather may have put a damper on the fun, this week has served as a preview of what’s to come.
As we move towards spring, it seems many students are already thinking about sunny days (which has certainly given them a certain “spring” in their step as well). Many can be seen wandering campus in shorts, and it’s likely that many others are cleaning their coats, sweaters and boots out of their closets in favor of shorts and sandals. However, getting rid of all their winter gear may not be the best move for now; chilly and overcast days have been in the forecast for the majority of the week, and will likely stick around for a little while longer.
However, it seems the return of air conditioning units to campus housing served as a good omen, and the campus came to life to enjoy those first days of warm weather. Hopefully, this is a glimpse of spring: full of lawn games, picnics, fresh air and more. In the meantime, students are obviously taking advantage of the outdoors when they can, yet are still content with indoor activities for now.
While we all wait in anticipation for spring, there are still plenty of activities to do. Check out spring sales to add to your spring wardrobe, take an indoor fitness class and keep an eye out for budding blooms and birds to signal the coming of spring. This is the perfect time of year to crack open a window for some fresh air, yet also enjoy the cozy comfort of hot chocolate and warm blankets. If you have the time, take a walk around campus or even around town to observe the changes in scenery. As spring quickly approaches, it is sure to bring sunshine, flowers and a renewed energy to the College.
