For this week’s article, meet Lemmy the English bulldog! Lemmy’s owner is Jaclyn Cline, a sophomore biology major with a focus in pre-health professions who lives in Ober Residence Hall. Lemmy is not an emotional support animal (ESA), so he does not live on campus, but at Cline’s family home in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Cline adopted three-year-old Lemmy from a breeder on August 14, 2021.
English bulldogs like Lemmy are different from French bulldogs, but people often lump them into one group. English bulldogs have a stocky, muscular build, while French bulldogs have a smaller and more compact body. French bulldogs are playful and energetic, while English bulldogs are laid back and calm. Due to their short nose, both types of bulldogs face respiratory issues, but English bulldogs have a higher risk. Fortunately, Lemmy is as healthy as any dog can be.
Like most dogs, Lemmy loves to eat, play outside and sleep. His toys of choice are balls and bones. When it comes to food, he loves it all, whether it be his dog chow or human food.
“He loves popcorn, anything and everything,” Cline said.
One activity that Lemmy loves the most is watching “Doug” on Disney+. “Doug” is an animated cartoon sitcom that aired on Nickelodeon in the 1990s and now lives on through the Disney+ streaming library. The show follows Douglas (Doug) Funnie, an around 12-year-old boy, as he journals his daily life in the form of an autobiography. The Funnie family consists of Doug, his parents Theda and Phil, his sister Judy and his dog Porkchop. Lemmy especially adores Porkchop, who is his favorite character on the show.
“He gets so excited that he’ll jump onto the TV stand just to get a closer look at the dog on the screen,” Cline said.
Lemmy has 84 pounds of love to share, and Cline says he believes that he is the ideal lap dog. He also loves to greet any guests that come to Cline’s home.
“He always wants to jump on people when they walk through the door, but his short legs keep him from making the leap,” Cline said.
Lemmy adores attention and receives it easily due to his loveable and laid back personality.
“With his charming smile and affectionate nature, he never fails to win hearts,” Cline said.
When it comes to fashion, Lemmy has a fun sense of style and loves to wear clothing. From what Cline showed, his wardrobe has a pair of heart glasses with a heart headband, jeans, a clown riding costume and a Santa sweater. Lemmy wears his outfits well and likes to show them off to anyone who sees him.
Lemmy is a loveable family dog, and completely shatters the false belief that bulldogs are violent and not suitable for families.
Lemmy has a long and healthy life ahead of him, so Cline and him have many years left together to bond and make memories!
