Although I’ve only been here for two months, my time at Elizabethtown College has been going swimmingly. Of course, things are going swimmingly for me most of the time anyway—I’m a betta fish after all! Hi, everyone. My name is Kristoff. I haven’t lived at Etown for very long yet, but I’ve already found a great home, family and friends here on campus.
Even though I live in a tank, I still have plenty to explore, just like college students! My tank is decorated with dark and light blue pebbles, bamboo, ferns, a rock and an elephant. There’s always plenty to do in my tank, like swim around the plants, play hide-and-seek under my rock and (my personal favorite) getting warm by the tank heater. With winter coming, it’s starting to get colder, but luckily, I have a nice place to relax and stay warm. But, when my owner comes back there’s only one thing on my mind: food.
An important thing to know about me is that I’m always hungry. I’m a growing fish, can you blame me? I always keep an eye out for my owner, and when I see her I swim to the front of my tank. I do that partly to say hello, but I also want to watch and see if it’s time to eat. Plus, when I get food I get to spend time with my owner after a long day of swimming around! I miss her when she’s off doing whatever humans do, but luckily I have company.
I’m not the only fish in my owner’s room: Willow has her own tank, and we spend a lot of time talking and playing when our owners are gone! The day I met Willow was the same day I came home, and I was so glad to see another fish I just couldn’t stop staring at her (she IS very pretty, after all). It can be hard to talk and play when you’re in separate tanks, but we managed to figure it out. While our owners are gone, we play hide-and-seek, charades and other games of our own invention. Long-distance relationships can be difficult, but we make it work!
Overall, my time at Etown has been fantastic so far. I’ve made friends, both fish and humans. I get lots of food and have a fun but comfortable tank to play in. I really feel right at home here, thanks to my owner. I’m so lucky she chose me to be her pet!
