What’s going on my Crumb Crew, it’s your favorite food reviewer back for your Weekly Treat. Though this will be my second entry, I’ve decided to premier a hot take on a new item I’ve tried this past week: Nutella dipped apple slices.
I was hesitant at first to try Nutella, on the account that I am not a huge fan of nuts or nutty tasting things. My picky eater bias aside, Nutella is a more situational choice for a snack. For example, it’s a perfect dipping food for parties, desserts and picnics, where you can have a proper sit down and enjoy it. If you were to ever take a serving lounging on a couch or lazily left out, however, the mess Nutella can leave behind will be very challenging to pick up after.
I also tried two different kinds of apples to see if one was favorable over the other, but even with one sour and one sweet apple, the Nutella always overpowered it to the point where even the smallest amount would show through. In my opinion, in order to pair two foods together, it has to work similar to color theory. There needs to be some sort of balance between the flavors, otherwise they either overpower one, clash together or just not work all together. This however, doesn’t mean that having too similar tastes works. In that case, it negates adding anything new to the palette.
I am in no way slamming anyone who likes Nutella, on the contrary, I can certainly see the appeal of it. But if you have sensitive or picky taste in what you eat like I do, it can really offset and desensitize you from the snack experience. After all, no one wants to sit through a snack they don’t like.
So for me, as much as I believe fruit can always work with chocolate, the Nutella dipped fruit gets a 4/10.
