Welcome back Crumb Crew! I hope everyone enjoyed their spring breaks! On mine, I’ve found a lot of wonderful, sweet spring treats, including a very popular dish from my mom’s home country: Brigadeiros, a Brazilian chocolate dessert! These delicious treats are like chocolate truffles and are relatively easy to make. Both the process and consumption can get messy, but the flavors and presentation are all worth it. These are also a good dessert to explore different toppings; the most common choices are sprinkles, sugar and coconut. It’s a softer cocoa taste than American chocolate treats and gives a stickier melt and chew. However, because of its heavy milk content, it can become easily filling and/or stomach upsetting if consumed in large amounts, so be careful and pace yourself. I feel that this is a noteworthy snack to write about because you can never become too appreciative of your culture’s cooking (and it’s also a shoutout to my mom, of course being my first #1 fan). A sweet gooey food like this deserves a rating of 9/10.
And here is, for the first time in this series, a recipe for my featured snack! All you need to do to make these are 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk, one tablespoon of butter, ¼ cup of cocoa powder and one cup of your choice of topping. First, you mix the milk, butter and cocoa in a pot on low heat and stir continuously until the bottom of the pan is visible. Then, pour the mixture into a greased pan and chill for about an hour. After that, grease your hands with a bit of butter and roll the chocolate into the ball shapes. And finally, roll the balls in your topping. If you are choosing to make these with more than one topping, make sure to separate the rolls into groups so you know how much you are making for each. A great recipe to learn and make with family or friends! Have fun!
