Happy Valentine’s Day, my lovely Crumb Crew! The Weekly Treat is here with an entry on a popular and commonly found snack choice for you: chips! Whether it be sour cream and onion, barbeque or sea salt, everyone has a go-to chip flavor or brand.
I’ve decided to go with Doritos Cool Ranch Chips, one of the most popular flavors of the brand. I’ve compared them with another brand with a similar tasting flavor: Baked sour cream and onion chips. This was for the purpose of an interesting argument: which is better, normal or baked chips?
In terms of healthiness, baked chips have less fat content and most contain less salt and sodium. That being said, both chips had a good flavor, nice crunch and are both relatively easy to clean if it gets messy.
However, there is a distinct difference regarding texture. While Doritos are a bit grainy because of their chip type and flavored powder, the baked chips have a thicker weight to it and the flavoring is baked into the chip itself, with no visible salting on it. So personally, I prefer the Doritos in that sense, but I’m beginning to lean towards the baked chips. Of course, there are other brands who bake their chips differently, so it might be a good idea to over time, get small bags of a different brand every now and then to explore different types of chips. Who knows, you might find a new favorite go-to snack.
So, what’s the rating on chips? With the ones I’ve explored this week, I’ll give it a hearty 6/10.
