Despite Elizabethtown College being a small school compared to most of the colleges in the area, it is nearly impossible to know all of the students on campus. Each one of them has their own unique story on how they came to attend Etown, and it is important to know that their story has value. One such example is the tale of sophomore Alexis Price.
When Price was deciding on a college to attend for the next four years of her life, she decided to look close to home. It was important to her to be near enough that she could visit home for the weekend but also far enough away that she could be independent. Price looked at Gettysburg College and other colleges in the area, but ultimately, it was Etown that felt like the perfect fit.
“This one stood out. I really like the closer faculty interactions,” Price said, “and I think the campus is really pretty.”
Price’s favorite memory from her short time at Etown was the marshmallow game from this past year. The game happened at Messiah University in Oct. 2021, and it ended in a tie.
“It was really fun because there were a lot of people from Etown, and we just threw marshmallows,” Price said.
For Price, it seems like her future career path was an easy choice. She is a biology health professions major with the intention of going to veterinarian school after she visits her undergraduate degree.
“Ever since I was little, I always liked animals,” Price said.
When Price was little, when she had birthday parties, she forgoed getting presents and instead asked for donations to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She got to go play with the dogs. As she got older, she started volunteering there. Then, when she could work, Price got a job at a veterinary clinic at the boarding facilities.
Her love for animals probably stems from home. Price has a lot of fish, an Australian Shepherd dog, an orange cat as well as a German Shepherd dog. Despite having a zoo in her household, Price still has one animal on her wish list. It is also her favorite animal.
“Currently, because it changes a lot, I have to say a chinchilla,” Price said. “I really want one because they’re really fluffy and cute. They have a lot of personality.”
Like most of us, Price has an unrealistic dream pet and hers is a snow leopard. She loves their coloring and thinks that they are pretty. However, their environment is not ideal for Price.
“Obviously, I’d have to live somewhere cold, so that’s not great,” Price said.
Something that someone would not know at Price just looking at her is that she has a semi-photographic memory. She may not remember every detail, but it is enough to help lessen her study load.
“I can go through the slides for my classes and remember everything on it,” Price said. “It’s a really good trait.”
When Price is not studying, she can usually be found at the Bowers Center, taking yoga classes or just taking a walk outdoors on campus.
Good luck to Price in her next two years at Etown and when she eventually ventures to veterinarian school!
