Students of Etown: Yasmin Elgamal

Students of Etown: Yasmin Elgamal

On campus, there are so many incredibly smart and talented students! Although our  community tries to stay as connected as possible, it is hard to get to know every single one of your wonderful peers. Let’s take a look at one of our fellow Blue Jays here on campus.

Yasmin Elgamal is a sophomore who tries to stay as involved as she can. Elgamal keeps herself busy on and off campus, often leaving her with limited free time. She spent her first year on campus making friends, joining clubs and adjusting to being away from home. Making the change from high school to college can be challenging, but thankfully Elgamal was able to thrive under that pressure.

Currently, Elgamal has an off-campus job just down the street working in Giant, specifically at the in-store Starbucks. She has been there for over a year and loves it. Working off campus is a wonderful opportunity and allows Elgamal to build a separate life from the college. This makes her more excited to focus her on-campus time on her friends, classes and clubs.

Now that her first year is under her belt, she was able to have a successful start to sophomore year. Since returning to campus, Elgamal has enjoyed meeting all her new professors for the semester. She expressed that she is loving the content and materials being discussed in all her classes.

Elgamal is studying English Secondary Education and enjoys all types of literature. Her favorite place to go on campus is the library. Elgamal talks about how wonderful her courses are and how they are helping to set her up for her future. She is beyond excited to be a future teacher.

Speaking of being eager, Elgamal could not wait to be a part of all sorts of different clubs and organizations on campus. One club she is involved with would be the Middle Eastern Culture Club and enjoys being a part of this club as her family is actually Egyptian. Elgamal likes going to these club meetings and events because it is a great way to meet fellow Middle Eastern students.

Another club Elgamal enjoys is one she recently joined. She has started writing for the Etownian this semester, so keep an eye out for her articles in the upcoming weeks. Writing and reading is a huge part of her life, and this is why she decided to write for the Etownian.

More things that Elgamal loves about being a student at Etown include going to the library and spending time with her friends.

“[I love] going to the library because it is full of books,” she said. It’s quiet, and it feels comfortable.”

Elgamal loves seeing her friends because it is a great way to build closer relationships and escape the stress of school.

Elgamal mentioned throughout her interview how excited she is to be back on campus.

“I look forward to my next three years at Etown,” she said. It is so amazing seeing students building their own community on our campus, and it is great to see one of our fellow Jays flourish on campus.
