Who knew Elizabethtown College’s great reputation could reach a New Jersey town two hours away? Sophomore Nick Schuler from Cinnaminson, N.J. is currently in his second year of the new exercise science major here at the College. Etown wasn’t always his first choice during the search for where he would spend the next four years of his college career, but with the help of some Blue Jay alumni, Etown became the glaring option.
“My high school wrestling coach, club soccer coach and youth soccer coach were all student athletes at Etown,” Schuler said. “It just felt like it was meant to be.”
Schuler chose to study exercise science due to his goal of becoming a chiropractor. “My uncle was a chiropractor all of my life, and it’s always something I dreamed about doing,” Schuler said. After college, he plans to attend chiropractic school and hopes to work with his uncle before retirement.
During his first year at Etown, Schuler was a member of the wrestling team, multiple intramural sports and the lifting club. This year, Schuler is focusing on his academics and taking a break from sports. However, he still participates in intramural sports and continues to be an active participant in the lifting club.
“My course load this semester is very demanding, so my goal is to focus on my academics and finish this semester with a great GPA,” Schuler said.
Schuler’s favorite resource on campus is the Bowers Center for Sports, Fitness and Well-being, offering him a variety of options depending on what he is doing that day. He loves sitting in the bean bag chairs while studying for class, going to the gym and using the new weightlifting equipment and getting ramen noodles or a smoothie at the snack bar.
“I love the versatility that the Bowers Center offers students. Anything that I need to do throughout the day I usually go to Bowers to get it done. It’s also a five-minute walk from my dorm, why wouldn’t I go there?” Schuler said.
Etown has cemented itself as a home away from home for Schuler. “As soon as I got here it just felt like home,” Schuler said. “Everybody knows each other and is super friendly. It just feels like a community here.”
As Schuler continues his journey here at Etown, he looks forward to his future classes and spending time with the friends he has made on campus.
“I’ve met friends on campus that I’ll know for the rest of my life. The bonds that I’ve made with so many people in a short time is crazy,” Schuler said.
Schuler is excited to continue his time as a Blue Jay and couldn’t be happier with his choice two years ago to attend Etown.
