Students of Etown: Kaitlyn Gilmore

With over 2,000 students enrolled at Elizabethtown College, it’s impossible for someone to get to know every single person on campus personally. So, this week, we’re introducing yet another Blue Jay: Kaitlyn Gilmore, a junior English professional writing major with minors in communications and creative writing.

Gilmore has become increasingly involved in the campus community over the past few years. She started as a board editor and proofreader for Etown’s literary magazine, Fine Print, in her first year and has since worked her way up to one of the Editor-in-Chief positions. She also joined Etown’s dance club, E-motion, this semester.

She is also employed by the Office of Student Activities (OSA) as a marketing coordinator, which means she helps create the banners for campus events hanging in the concourse of the Baugher Student Center among other duties.

As part of her job, she often helps out with campus events like Thank Goodness It’s Spring (TGIS) and Mx. Etown, which she finds to be her favorite part.

“I love seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces and helping to create the props that sit behind the performers,” Gilmore said. “It’s so fun to help create a joyful experience for everyone on campus.”

Gilmore has thoroughly enjoyed her time in college so far.

“My Etown experience has been so fun,” she said. “I love it here. My favorite experience has been meeting my current roommates and watching TV shows in our rooms. I’m very introverted, so watching something and having a night in is something I love to do.”

Outside of her classes and extracurriculars, Gilmore continues to be creative. She likes to write, especially poetry, and she keeps a journal.

“Anything to get my thoughts down and clear my head in a creative, fun way,” she said.

In addition to writing, Gilmore likes to read. She is currently working her way through Casey McQuinston’s “The Pairing.”

Gilmore also uses her creativity for visual art, in the form of diamond painting and coloring.

“Coloring is something I’m getting more into that is helping me destress after a long week.” she said.

While she has a few established hobbies, Gilmore is still looking to try new things.

“I want to try embroidery soon,” she said. “I think that will be my next idea.”

When she’s not spending time with her roommates or relaxing in her campus apartment, Gilmore returns to her hometown in South Brunswick, N.J., located just outside of Princeton.
