Grace Diehl is a calm and friendly student from Wyomissing, Pa. She loves helping people whenever she can and socializing with others.
Diehl is a junior at Elizabethtown College. Her major is Secondary English Education, and her minor is Spanish.
Diehl chose her major so she could teach people English. This dream came from the enjoyment she received from her high school teachers. They helped her learn different materials so she could understand them.
“I wanted to provide that support for students,” Diehl said.
To achieve this goal, Diehl works at the Elizabethtown Child Care Center. She works with children between the ages of one and two as a daycare teacher assistant. One of her tasks is preparing snacks for the kids. She also engages in outdoor and indoor activities with them, along with educational activities.
When Diehl is not working with children, she writes, reads, sings and socializes with friends. She also likes befriending new people she meets.
“I’m a personable person,” Diehl said, “I’m good at connecting with people.”
She expresses her love for singing in the Vocalign club on campus. The club is where students put on performances on or outside of campus through singing a cappella.
Another thing Diehl enjoys doing during her free time is exposing herself to nature. She likes going outside and acknowledging the different aspects of nature.
“I enjoy going for walks in nature,” Diehl said.
The reason she enjoys nature comes from her childhood. She lived on a farm for five to six years of her life. Not being inside for most of the day helped her like being outside.
Diehl plans to use her major to teach English to others in the future. Despite that, she is unsure about how it will happen. She wonders if she will teach English in America or another part of the world. Her Spanish minor might help prepare her for the possibility since she will be fluent in a foreign language.
Like the friendly student she is, Diehl also wants to help give back to her community and the world. She plans to do this by joining the Peace Corps after she graduates. It is a service organization where volunteers interact with other communities and help make their lives better.
Let us acknowledge these acts of kindness from Diehl and uniquely strive to be kind and hard-working.
