This week, the Etownian would like to introduce Angela Guydik as our featured student of Elizabethtown College. Guydik is from Leesport, Pa. and is a current senior studying to become an occupational therapist. Her graduation will occur this spring of 2023. However, as an occupational therapy student, she will continue for another two years here at Etown to eventually graduate again in 2025 with her doctorate degree.
The main reason that Guydik came to Etown was for the doctorate program in occupational therapy. Many other schools that she looked at did not offer a doctorate program directly with the institution. In addition, when Guydik came for her overnight stay at Etown, she found the campus a comforting place. The students that hosted her made the experience very delightful and appealing. Overall, Guydik felt that she would receive great benefits from the occupational therapy program at Etown while also giving her a great community to be a part of.
Guydik has had her fair share of involvement here on campus. To start, she has been a Resident Assistant (RA) since the beginning of last school year. Her role as an RA has continued into this year since she enjoyed it so much the first time. This experience brought her multiple opportunities to meet and develop relationships with Resident Life employees, her fellow RA team members and residents. Having this job has given Guydik some of her most valued people in her life.
In addition, Guydik is part of a Christian club on campus called Lighthouse. Joining as a first-year, she is still going strong with involvement, so much so that Angela is now part of the leadership team. From the beginning, Guydik noticed that Lighthouse has been gaining many new members and has expanded across campus. Since joining Lighthouse, Guydik has made more friends and gained a better relationship with Christ than she ever thought possible. This club experience is something she will cherish forever.
Some fun facts that Guydik would like to share is that she has a twin brother. She loves him with all her heart and is so thankful for their relationship. In addition, Guydik and her brother were born in Russia. Guydik would also like to share how she can touch her tongue to her nose and roll her R’s, both of which she achieved through training herself.
After graduating this coming year, Guydik plans on continuing her education here at Etown. She is looking forward to the research and fieldwork part of the doctorate program. However, after receiving her doctorate degree for occupational therapy, Guydik plans on going into the school system. She would like to help kids with basic skills and let them thrive and grow in those areas. Another path that Guydik might consider following is working for a rehabilitation facility. Recently Guydik’s fieldwork placement was at a rehab center which impacted her in many different ways. Seeing and learning about the experience of patients at the rehab center had caught Guydik’s eye.
Overall, Guydik is happy about ending up at Etown and looks forward to the years she still gets to experience with fellow faculty and students. She will forever be changed by this college experience. Guydik will never forget all the memories that she holds close to her heart.
