On the weekends when the Office of Students Activities does not have anything planned, it is easy to get bored on campus. Ping-pong in the lobby can only be entertaining for so long, and no one ever wants to study just for the fun of it. Sometimes, you just need a break from the college atmosphere, and the perfect place to go for a few hours and get some fresh air is Cones and Clubs in York, Pa.
Located only 35 minutes from campus, Cones and Clubs is the perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon with your friends. For only $6.50, you can play 24 holes of mini-golf and laugh as you struggle to meet par.
The course is challenging without being too frustrating. As you venture across the course, you will run into a windmill, a Pac-Man arcade machine and even travel onto a pirate ship. At some of the holes, the golf ball must travel through an obstacle. Plus, there are also animal statues that won’t bite if you want to say hi. If you need a cute picture for your next Instagram post, Cones and Clubs has plenty of photo opportunities.
Brooke Seislove, peer mentor for the First-Year Seminar N: Can We Listen to Something Substantial, took eight of her students to Cones and Clubs on Friday, Sept. 10, as a group activity. She spent the evening monitoring the group and keeping track of scores on two separate sheets. At the end of the night, they all gathered around a purple monkey statue and took a photo together that they will cherish forever.
“It was nice to hang out with the students and do something that we all enjoyed,” Seislove said.
One of Seislove’s FYS students, Jordynn Campbell, spoke very highly of the event. She felt like mini-golfing with her fellow students was a great place for bonding and treasures the time she spent there.
“It was a very welcoming place, and the staff was super nice,” Campbell said. “It made me feel like a little kid again.”
After spending the day on the golf course, you can grab a bite to eat or some ice cream at Cones and Clubs’ restaurant, Jim Mack’s Ice Cream. With some value menu items of under three dollars, it is the perfect place for a budget meal for broke college students. Plus, ice cream is the most perfect comfort food after a stressful week after exams and the never-ending pile of homework.
Seislove, a self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur, loved the peanut butter blast she got.
“Ice cream is one of my favorite foods, and Cones and Clubs definitely had some of the best ice cream out there,” Seislove said.
The next time you find yourself mindlessly scrolling through TikTok or binge watching something on Netflix and bored out of your mind, check out Cones and Clubs for some mini-golf and don’t forget to get some ice cream!
