Restaurant Review: My Place Italian

My first time visiting My Place Italian was last year during my spring semester. My friend, who is now a sophomore international business major and French minor, Meghan Murray accompanied me. It was a random weekday where we were tired of Marketplace food, and we thought we deserved a special outing after nearly surviving our first year of college. We spent a decent amount perusing Google Maps searching for a good restaurant to eat at. Finally, we settled on My Place Italian. Instantly, I knew this was going to be a spot that we talked about often.

I do not remember much of that first visit. I did visit there last semester for my 20th birthday, but I decided I needed to refresh my memory for my article review. As a result, Murray and I ventured back to our favorite spot. I’m pretty sure we even sat in the same booth.

“It reminds me of my hometown, small, family restaurant where I work as a hostess,” Murray said. “It’s nice to have a small piece of home while I’m away for so long.”

My Place Italian is not your traditional sit-down restaurant. When you walk in, you are greeted by a menu on the wall. You place your order at the front counter with the friendly cashier, and then you go sit wherever you desire. Drinks are self-serve, and you get unlimited refills. The best part, in my opinion, is that they have Barq’s root beer. The service is extremely fast, and you will have your dinner in no-time.

Although My Place Italian has Italian in the name, it also serves a variety of different delicacies. Of course, you can order classic Italian food like spaghetti and lasagne, but you can also order quesadillas, a variety of salads, different subs and pizza.

“I love the variety of Italian, Mexican and American cuisine,” Murray said. “The mozzarella sticks are my favorite part though!”

The great thing about My Place Italian is that the prices are unbeatable. Normally, italian restaurants cost an arm and a leg, so I was pleasantly surprised that I only paid $20 for my meal and that included appetizers.

I’ve tried three meals at My Place Italian. My first visit, I had the gnocchi. The second one, for my birthday, I had the chicken parm. The third visit, I had the chicken parm sub. All three of these dishes I can honestly say were delicious and satisfactory. I found that each meal filled me up and that I was not hungry for the rest of the night.
