Recipe Review: S’mores Dip

Recipe Review: S’mores Dip

During the winter, I often find myself craving warmer weather and my favorite summer treats to go alongside it. Unfortunately, it’s tricky to set up a campfire and toast some marshmallows when the ground is covered in snow. So, here’s a recipe for a s’mores-flavored dip that you can make and enjoy in the comfort of your heated home.

First, gather the ingredients. You’ll need chocolate, mini marshmallows and milk, plus something to dip into the final result. I recommend graham crackers for a classic s’mores taste or pretzels for a salty and sweet combination, but strawberries or shortbread cookies would likely make for a delicious dessert as well. You’ll also want a microwave-safe bowl and spoon or other stirring utensil on hand.

Start by adding equal parts of the chocolate and marshmallows into the bowl. I recommend using chocolate chips because they are already in small pieces, but if you would prefer to use chocolate bars since they’re readily available from the Jay’s Nest, break them up before adding them to the bowl. Add a splash of milk to the mixture.

Microwave the bowl for 30 seconds, stir completely and microwave for another 30 seconds. The chocolate should be almost fully melted, but the marshmallows will likely still be largely intact. Use the spoon to crush and mix the marshmallows until they are combined with the chocolate, then microwave for another 30 seconds. Top with more marshmallows or sprinkle on some graham cracker crumbs. Allow the dip to cool before serving, and enjoy!

I recommend using semi-sweet or dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate for this recipe since the sugar from the marshmallows helps balance it out for a result with the perfect amount of sweetness.

I also opted to use chocolate milk since I don’t enjoy the taste of regular milk, and I think it worked out well. You can also swap the milk for any substitutes you prefer. Just be mindful not to use too much, as it will result in your dip becoming watery and you may have to drain it before fully melting the ingredients.

I used about half the bags of chocolate chips and marshmallows, and it was enough to keep on hand for several days and share with friends. Store the dip in the refrigerator, then heat it up for 30 seconds to a minute before eating, since I’ve found it tastes even better when warm and melting on your tongue.
