Dozens of new Elizabethtown College student ambassadors took part in the most successful February accepted student’s day in the past five years.
Twenty-four recently hired Elizabethtown College student ambassadors, known as Blue Jay Ambassadors, took part in the accepted student’s day event held on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Blue Jay Ambassadors are student employees tasked with conducting campus tours, answering any questions a prospective student or their family member may have, and assisting with admissions events.
Twenty-one students submitted their enrollment deposit after Saturday’s festivities, the largest total at a February accepted student’s day in the last five years according to an email sent by the Elizabethtown College. The event held on Saturday is the first in a series of three accepted student’s day events.
Saturday’s accepted student’s day event hosted nearly 150 prospective students and an additional 300 guests. The new Blue Jay Ambassadors assisted in directing students and their families to the proper locations. They were also available to answer any questions guests may have had.
Student-run clubs like the women’s dance team and the a cappella group, Vocalign, performed for students and their families. Afterward, students were separated into smaller groups by their intended area of study. Guests were also encouraged to go on guided campus tours and enjoy lunch at The Marketplace.
Monica Venturella, the associate director of admissions, described the role Blue Jay Ambassadors play in the admissions process. “Our Blue Jay Ambassadors are trusted representatives of the college, and their stories help prospective students see if the college is the right fit for them,” Venturella said.
Each new hire went through an extensive interview and training process to ensure they accurately and enthusiastically represent Etown’sElizabethtown College core values. “My team looks for students that we feel will represent the college to the highest level,” Venturella said.
First-year public relations student Amelia Rendzak described her personal goal as a Blue Jay Ambassador. “If I can make people feel comfortable somewhere, that’s my number one goal,.” she said.
Rendzak cited her own touring experiences as a factor in applying for the position. “I remember going on a tour here and I had such a good experience with the girls I went on the tour with,” she Rendzak said. “I was like, I could totally see myself doing this.”
First- year international business student Vanessa Chavez hopes to showcase all that Etown Elizabethtown College has to offer. “I hope that I can give them a good impression of the school, because it’s a very good school,” she Chavez said.
Chavez also wants to provide representation for non-English speakers. Originally from Mexico, Chavez is fluent in both English and Spanish. She hopes that she can encourage multilingual students and their families to feel comfortable on campus. “If there is anyone from Mexico or any other Hispanic country, I want to help them,” Chavez said.
The new Blue Jay Ambassadors will continue to assist with the admissions process throughout their enrollment at the school.
