Local Business Review: Pizza Hut

Local Business Review: Pizza Hut

For many years, the Pizza Hut franchise dominated the pizza industry in the United States, with restaurants spread across the country. Tragically, the reign of Pizza Hut has been on the decline for many years, causing disappointment among many longing for the signature taste of a deep-dish pepperoni pie. In this author’s hometown, for example, the closest Pizza Hut fell victim to widespread shutdowns of restaurants several years ago. After processing this traumatic experience and finally coming to terms with what I had lost (a years-long process), I made my way to Elizabethtown College, where I stood in disbelief upon learning that a Pizza Hut was a mere seven-minute drive away.

Although it no longer offers a dine-in option, the Pizza Hut in Elizabethtown is a perfect place to relive nostalgic childhood vibes. Still outfitted with classic Pizza Hut architecture and decorative style, this location is a time capsule of a bygone era. While it is unfortunate the restaurant no longer offers dine-in services, this only serves to take the workload off employees, allowing them to focus on crafting the dishes the restaurant is so famous for.

In terms of quality, I have never had a negative experience with the Pizza Hut in Elizabethtown. Typically, I use the app to order my food before leaving, and it’s generally ready right when I arrive. Plus, as I use the app I earn points towards free pizza, breadsticks and other items. This has definitely come in handy as a budget-friendly treat on several occasions! In addition, the pizza I don’t eat always serves as a meal the next day. It may be controversial, but there’s nothing quite like a breakfast of cold Pizza Hut pizza to fuel my day.

Even though Pizza Hut restaurants are quickly becoming a rare sighting, the restaurant is still coming up with new dishes all the time. Newly released melts keep the integrity of classic Pizza Hut flavors, but the new spin on the dish is something worth trying.  As always, the classic options always satisfy pizza cravings. The brownies are always hot and chewy, perfect for a sweet treat at the end of your meal. Overall, although the restaurant has scaled back in terms of dine-in options, the most important elements (nostalgia factor and food quality) remain strong.

It may not be the healthiest option—far from it, in fact—but you can never go wrong with a Pizza Hut pizza. For longtime fans of the franchise, taking advantage of its convenient location and quick service is an amazing opportunity to relive childhood memories and savor what has quickly become an underappreciated delicacy.
