Job Spotlight: Career Peer

Job Spotlight: Career Peer

There are plenty of jobs open to students on campus, one of which is with the Career Peers position with the Career Development Center.

According to sophomore occupational therapy major and Career Peer of two years Madelyn Nicholas, Career Peers typically perform a variety of tasks, including taking headshots, creating and posting for the Career Development Center’s social media pages, supporting students who may need any advice or someone to talk to about their future careers and holding Career Peer Hours, where students can receive help with their resumes and LinkedIn or Handshake profiles.

Each of these duties total to about six to nine hours per week, according to Nicholas.

Though Nicholas occasionally struggles to answer employers’ calls, she loves her job.

“My favorite things about this position are the amazing and kind staff that I get to work with,” she said. “I love working with Maureen and Carolyn and they are the best bosses I could ever want, and I also love working with my awesome Career Peers Maddie Musselman, Ryan Ramler and Brendan Guy, who has been here at the CDC since I started and who has been my role model for this position.”

Musselman agreed, explaining that she also liked her coworkers and found the position to be fun without much pressure.

Musselman had applied for the position in the hopes of advancing her own future career.

“I wanted to be a Career Peer because I knew I would be trained in valuable information I could keep for the rest of my life,” she said.  “I also loved the idea of working with other students to help them learn something new.”

Musselman enjoys working with other students and helping them gain confidence in their careers.

“It can really change the game for someone who knows they have a good resume to turn in to employers,” she said.

According to Nicholas, the application process was similar to other student positions at Elizabethtown, including a list of prior experience, resume and cover letter. There was also an interview component with Director of the Career Development Center Maureen Brown and Associate Director of the Career Development Center Carolyn Rigo.

Brown shared that positions will be opening for student applications in the spring of 2026.

“Overall, the CDC is a very warm and calming environment and we are here to help any student who walks in our door,” Nicholas said. “Even if at the moment you do not need career help, never be afraid to pop in and say hello. We love the company.”
