Horoscopes: What book are you based on your zodiac sign?

As an English major and self-proclaimed bibliophile, I love to read. Nothing brings me more joy than reading or buying books. I mean, my desk does have about 25 books waiting to be read. My roommate, graduate Physician Assistant Program student, Emily Acri even put me on a book-buying ban. All of this is to say that I know my books. For this week’s edition of the horoscopes, let’s see what book you should buy from Midtown Scholar or Barnes and Noble this weekend based on your zodiac sign. Make sure to look at your sun, moon and rising to make the most complete TBR list! Please check out trigger warnings before you read.

Aries- You live for competition, so I think you should (re)visit the popular 2010 book, “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. You’ll be furiously flipping through pages, eyes burning, to see if Katniss Everdeen can overcome the odds and win the Hunger Games.

Taurus- You like a little luxury, Taurus, and there’s no shame in that, but it can sometimes overtake you. Give another chance to the English class classic, “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Jay Gatsby may represent the American dream, but that dream isn’t necessarily one we want.

Gemini- You’re a very talented person, and sometimes, you wonder what path you should follow. Thus, your book is “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig. Watch as Nora tests out the different lives she could’ve lived and see that maybe her ideal life is the one she’s currently living.

Cancer- Your book is the classic “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. Don’t get intimidated by the fancy language. Really spend the time getting to know the text, even read a few summaries if you need to, and I think you’ll really enjoy the story of Elizabeth Bennet learning to let down her guard.

Leo- The book for Leos is “Carrie Sotto is Back” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This book is part of Reid’s Golden Hollywood set. I think you’ll appreciate the titular character’s unapologetic nature. She refuses to back down and won’t accept anything but being number one. Sound like anyone you know?

Virgo- You want your books to have a bit of substance and be applicable to your real life, so I think a memoir is right up your alleyway. Your book is “Greenlights” by Matthew McConaughey. Rumor has it that he wrote the book himself, a rarity in the celebrity memoir world. McConaughey is surprisingly wise, and you’ll enjoy his life lessons.

Libra- The book for you is “If Cats Disappeared From the World” by Genki Kawamura. It follows a mailman who discovers that his life is about to end. The Devil offers him the chance to live longer if he takes away one new thing each day. It’s a beautiful story about finding the small joys in life.

Scorpio- Despite what you tell yourself, you love media that makes you emotional. Your book is “If We Were Villains” by M.L. Rio. It combines a love story and found family gone wrong all within a thriller. You’ll find yourself gasping with the plot twists, and it’ll make your cold, dead heart pound.

Sagittarius- Even doing pleasure reading, you like to still be learning. Your book is “Babel” by R.F. Kuang, which combines fantasy elements with Oxford University in the eighteenth century. You’ll learn so much about the etymology of certain words. Sometimes, the footnotes take up half the page, but the story is worth the work.

Capricorn- Your book is “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow” by Gabrielle Zevin. This story is a testament to friendship between two video game designers. It spans years of their friendship, and I think you’ll appreciate the timeline. This was my favorite read of 2023!

Aquarius- The book for you is “Ella Minnow Pea” by Mark Dunn. It’s told through a series of letters where the characters have to slowly stop using certain letters. For awhile, you won’t realize that the letter ‘u’ hasn’t been used in chapters, but then, it’ll hit you. This is the perfect book for someone who wants to try something experimental.

Pisces- Everyone who knows me knows that I love “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky, and it’s for a good reason. It reminds me a lot of you, Pisces. It’s deeply sentimental, and you’ll relate a lot to Charlie as he struggles to escape the safe world of books and start to participate.
