October has finally arrived, bringing with it a renewed interest in the horror genre. Horror movies are a yearly production; however, it’s especially fitting to indulge during the month of Halloween. What better time of year to curl up under some blankets with popcorn and watch horror films? In the spirit of Halloween, let’s see what classic horror movie juxtaposes your zodiac sign.
Libra (Sept. 23 –Oct. 22): Libra is often associated with love and balance, which is not seen in the 1976 film “Carrie.” Carrie White faces hatred from her religious mother and fellow students every day at school. Carrie’s mother, Margaret, is the epitome of imbalance and goes from insulting Carrie to physically harming her.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 –Nov. 21): Scorpios are passionate individuals, and passion is a prominent theme in the 1987 movie “Hellraiser.” The cenobites in the film are a sadomasochistic group who do not differentiate between pleasure and pain. This passion leads to people perishing in gruesome ways.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 –Dec. 21): Sagittarius are often outgoing and optimistic people, so the 1978 film “Halloween” seems to be a good fit. The title makes one believe it’s a lighthearted movie, but that is not true. In “Halloween,” Michael Myers is on the loose and taking lives again.
Capricorn (Dec. 21 –Jan. 20): Capricorns are orderly and disciplined individuals. “The Exorcist” from 1973 is neither of those traits. Regan MacNeil, a 12-year-old girl, winds up possessed and ultimately wreaks havoc, including ending someone’s life, before she is able to be exorcized.
Aquarius (Jan. 21 –Feb. 18): Aquarius pride themselves on their originality and creativity. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” from 1984 shows why too much creativity and imagination can be a bad thing. Freddy Krueger is a vengeful spirit, who created a dreamland of terror for his victims.
Pisces (Feb. 19 –March 20): Pisces are caring and loving to those they deem fit. The “Friday the 13th” movie from 1980 is a perfect visual of how caring and loving too much can result in terrible actions. Mrs. Vorhees is the counselor killer and vengeful mother of Jason, her son who drowned while at camp.
Aries (March 21 –April 19): Aries are the prime movers of society, always raring to go. But ambition can be lethal like in the 1983 movie “Sleepaway Camp.” Angela, having been the only surviving child of a motorboat collision on top of being bullied at Camp Arawak, snaps and begins to take revenge on all who hurt her.
Taurus (April 20 –May 20): Taurus is often associated with stability, but stability can be easily shattered, like in the 1960 film “Psycho.” Marion Crane stops at a motel to rest from a rainstorm. This seemingly normal motel has a killer amongst its walls, and Marion meets her demise whilst showering.
Gemini (May 21 –June 20): Gemini are represented by the twins. Speaking of twins, none are more iconic than the twins from the 1980 “The Shining.” The Grady twins are the daughters of Delbert Grady who met their demise at his hand in the hotel the movie takes place in: Overlook Hotel.
Cancer (June 21 –July 22): Cancers value security and comfort over anything else. A toy doll appears in the 1998 film “Child’s Play,” but this doll is far from safe. The Good Guy doll, named Chucky by its 6-year-old owner Andy, has the spirit of a fugitive serial killer possessing it.
Leo (July 23 –Aug. 22): Leos love grandeur and the spotlight more than anything; the 1988 film “Killer Klowns from Outer Space” has exactly that. The klowns certainly live up to their name by encasing civilians in ray guns, shooting popcorn at people with bazooka weapons and making pies rain from the sky when their ship is destroyed.
Virgo (Aug. 23 –Sept. 22): Virgos are loyal individuals, which is not seen in the 1979 movie “Alien.” Warrant officer Ripley catches wind that science officer Ash has been in on the company’s plan to take the alien back for observation. This leads to Ash almost taking Ripley’s life.
