As students settle into the Spring semester, many clubs at Elizabethtown College are working hard to plan meetings, activities and events both on and off campus. The newly rebooted History Club, which had their latest meeting on Feb. 10, has several big plans for the semester which are sure to interest students both within and outside history-related majors.
The first event of the year for History Club, partnering with the High Library, will be a Wiki Edit-a-Thon on March 9, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Participants will celebrate Women’s History Month by learning how to add information onto Wikipedia, working specifically with notable women from the history of the Elizabethtown College and community. This is a great event to attend to gain experience with historical records and organizing information!
On March 25, History Club will be taking a walking tour of Elizabethtown, hosted by the Director of Special Programs & Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships Jean-Paul Benowitz. Benowitz has generously offered to lead a lantern-lit, historic tour in the evening. Any students interested in engaging with and learning more about their community are welcome to attend!
Following these events, the club is also looking forward to a day trip to Gettysburg, Pa. once the weather gets warmer. On April 2, students who sign up for the trip will be taking a tour of the battlefields, as well as exploring other historic sites in the surrounding town.
In between these exciting events, History Club also has many ideas for activities to do during meetings. While part of each meeting will be dedicated to updates on events and fundraising efforts, there will also be time for fun! On the agenda this semester is allocating historical nicknames to members, debates and discussions, contests, presentation nights, poetry and more!
History Club hosts biweekly meetings in Nicarry 212.
