Welcome to the Jungle

Welcome to the Jungle

Hey, I’m Squish! I’m a salmon-colored fox, so it’s kinda easy to pick me out in a crowd. I’m so excited to talk to you about my college experience at Elizabethtown College! I’m from Pennsylvania, which is about an hour and a half from campus. I’m a sophomore international business major, with my focus being in Germany. Next semester I plan on studying abroad in Paris. Currently, I’m taking Psychopathology, Advanced Fiction Writing, College Physics and Italian Renaissance. Why did I choose Etown? Oh, that’s easy. We have a welcoming community and the small classrooms make sure that I can focus and get the attention I need. Also, the professors actually care about you. They think of you as more of a person than a number in the classroom.

I live in Brinser with two roommates. It’s kinda hard taking virtual classes alongside your roommates. We sometimes talk over each other and we can hear snippets of each other’s courses. Hopefully, in the future, we can get an apartment and have separate rooms. I would definitely love to start cooking my own meals and being independent. Though, being central to campus makes it easy to get to class and grab quick meals. If we did get an apartment, we would be walking so much farther.

Another great thing about going to Etown is that I can hang out with my cousin, Snorkel. We usually go to the Blue Bean and grab a Blueberry Pomegranate Refresher after our Foundations of Inclusive Education class in the afternoon. We then pop over to the library to get some homework and maybe blast some Screamo music on the fourth floor. If it’s raining, we can be found on the roof of Leffler splashing in some puddles. Unfortunately, Snorkel lives in Hawaii, so I won’t be able to spend time with her over Easter break. Maybe over the summer, I can go visit her, though it might be a little cold.

Yeah, I don’t feel like this is much of a spring break. I get that the College wanted to throw in some study days to make up for the fact we lost our week-long spring break. However, I think a few more study breaks would be nice to help us with our mental health. I honestly can’t wait for the semester to be over.

In my free time, I play video games. I mostly stick to RPG games like Candy Crush and Tetris, but I’m starting to get into a game called God of War: Ragnarok. The environment is very pretty and the villages are really nice. Basically, you buy turnips and plant them on your farm. After a while, your turnips sprout legs and arms and run around your field. You have to round them up and ship them off to make gold. With enough gold, you can buy the Master Sword and ring the Harvest Sprites’ bells. Definitely more of a grinding game than what I’m used to.

Overall, I’m doing pretty well on campus. I can’t believe we’re already picking classes for next semester and going through the housing selection process. Right now, I think I’m at a mix of wanting the semester to keep going and wanting it to end at the same time. Hopefully, this break will help kickstart some motivation to get me to the end of the semester. Well, I’ll see you around campus!
