The following article is part of an April Fools’ Edition of The Etownian: the stories are fake the but interviews/quotes are real.
Elizabethtown College recently put out a list of new majors that they are adding to the course catalog, and one of them is the new influencer studies degree! The influencer studies degree is a four-year degree in the communications program, and the Steinman Building will add a separate wing for influencer studies majors. Construction will begin over the summer. The separate wing will allow students to be closed off from the rest of campus, simulating the life of a real influencer, as most are completely out of touch with the real world.
Plans for the new wing in Steinman have already been laid out by staff at Etown. It will include dorms for the students to live in and new state of the art classrooms. It also includes a kitchen, similar to dorm rooms already in place. This hybrid dorm-classroom approach is an experimental one, and Etown is excited to be at the forefront of influencer studies programs around the world.
Students that are already in the communications department can easily transfer majors if they are junior standing or below. Business and marketing majors can also transfer to the influencer studies program if they are sophomore standing or below.
The courses offered in the degree will help prepare students for life as an influencer. Influencer studies majors will not have to follow the core curriculum plan, because there is always a different set of rules for the elite. Successful influencers often end up making millions of dollars a year, and they can make their own rules.
First-year student Layla Murphy says that she is looking forward to transferring to the influencer studies degree. “I’m looking forward to audio class and knowing the trending sounds to dance to,” Murphy said. The audio class will relate to the popular app TikTok, with course material covering the basics of how to work audios and how to create your own.
Other classes offered in the influencer studies degree include a Photoshop class, where students will learn to alter reality. This is part of the Instagram and Facebook part of the degree. There is also a class on Facetune and video editing.
Makeup and physical conditioning classes will also be part of the course because influencers are all about surface-level beauty. The influencer studies majors will have to go through a two-semester long beauty class and will learn all the best spots to get your routine done for you, like hair salons.
Influencer studies with a concentration in video gaming will not have to participate in beauty classes. They will have to take a class on how to market energy drinks to fellow gamers. For streamers, a course on Twitch will be offered as well as competitive video games.
Writing classes will be included in the major. Notes app apology writing is one of the prerequisites for the courses. This is paired with tweet writing and caption writing. Plagiarism is allowed in the influencer studies courses, so students can expect the writing component to be a breeze.
However, one of the most strenuous courses will be the apology video course. Students will be expected to make one apology video a week, and every time they make a mistake, they will be monitored and a video will have to come out explaining their actions. Students must take this course every single semester that they are in the program.
The degree also caters to an older audience. For adult students, the course on Facebook will be the most important. This will include how to use the “live” feature of Facebook, and how to use Facebook Marketplace. A course on how to sell multi-level marketing schemes will also be taught.
