Elizabethtown College’s dining hall plans a ‘sweet surprise’ for students with new renovations

As many students at Elizabethtown College have already heard, the Marketplace is getting renovated this summer. There are a couple new additions to the dining hall that should be exciting for the students, including  a partnership with Hershey.

Since Hershey is only about 20 minutes from campus, Etown decided to work together with the company to invent new treats for the dining hall. The College and Hershey created 15 new desserts and Hershey-related stations that will be in the new Marketplace.

One of the new additions to the Marketplace will be a five-foot tall chocolate fountain that will be running at all times. The station will have a variety of fruits, candy and other assortments you can dip into the chocolate fountain during Marketplace hours.

Hershey is also going to do a collaboration with the pizza station in the Marketplace. One of the new pizza ideas is going to be a chocolate chip pizza. Hershey plans to have a cookie base with chocolate sauce, topped with shredded white chocolate and Reese’s cups on top. The pizza will also be sold in Jay’s Nest.

The excitement amongst the students is causing a rush for the semester to end so the renovations can start. This is anticipated to be a financial success for both Hershey and Elizabethtown because students are already increasing their meal plans to ensure they can enjoy the Hershey collaboration for next academic year.

Hershey also plans to expand the dessert bar as well, including a new variety of desserts. They plan to replace the ice cream machine with an ice cream freezer of all of Hershey‘s ice cream flavors. They will come in single serving cups and each student is allowed two servings per meal swipe.

Now that more information about the Etown-Hershey collaboration is coming out, Blue Jays are not hiding their excitement.

“The Hershey company delivers not only exceptional service but can enhance flavors of food greatly because of the quality of their products,” Michaela Taylor, a sophomore early childhood education major said.  “The possibilities of enhanced food from Hershey pique my interest as a commuter-student, and increases my future interest of the food at Etown College’s dining hall.”

Students all over campus are discussing the new changes and what that means in regards to meal plans and Jaybucks.

”I would use Jay Bucks or student charge if Hershey allowed it,”  Rebecca Green, a sophomore political science major said.

Additionally, Etown will be offering a brand new meal plan, the Hershey Platinum Plan. This plan will include monthly Hersheypark tickets and weekly $20 vouchers for any Hershey products sold in Elizabethtown or Hershey. Hershey will also now accept Jaybucks and student charges.

Students seem to be excited about these additions to the College and are eager to start utilizing these tasty opportunities. Hershey predicts that the student’s favorite outcome of this partnership will be the new Hershey chocolate claw machine and mini game booth that will be located in the center of the dinning hall, giving students a new fun way to enhance their Marketplace experience.

Etown and Hershey are set up to have a wonderful and successful partnership starting this summer according to students and the college. It seems that many students and staff are looking forward to the addition of sweetness on campus next semester.
