Elizabethtown College is home to many wonderful, hardworking students, and today, I will be showcasing one of these students, Cailee Compton.
Hailing from Kingsville, Maryland, Compton is a first-year pPublic hHealth major.
When asked why she chose public health, Compton said, “I want to help people but I don’t want to stick them with a needle,.” Compton said.
Personally, I am with Compton on this one, needles freak me out as well. While being a first- year student can be hard with adjusting to being away from home, Compton says she has been having a great time at Etown. Her favorite part of being here is how easy it is to make friends.
When asked about this, Compton said, “Everyone here is so friendly. I’ve made tons of friends since move-in day and we spend a lot of time together hanging out and enjoying campus.” Compton said.
Not only is she a hardworking student, she is also a member of the Etown Dance Team and E-motion. She has danced throughout her childhood and was very excited to be able to continue her career at college.
In the beginning of the year, Compton auditioned and was successfully chosen to dance in a number of dances for their showcase, including a performance to Noah Kahan, one of her favorite artists. Besides the end of the year showcase, Compton is extremely excited for Dancing with the Jays. She and her partner, Ben Horgos, have been working hard to perfect their 1990’s inspired routine.
Her favorite part about being on the dance team is her teammates. She describes them as, “gGirls you can truly trust and count on for anything.” The dance team is Compton’s favorite on-campus club/organization and urges anyone interested to try out. She was “definitely nervous at first” but is so glad to have put herself out there.
Besides dancing and saving the world, Compton enjoys a wide variety of hobbies. She is a frequent concert goer, having seen Kacey Musgraves, Vance Joy, the Zac Brown Band, Noah Kahan, Lord Huron, Train, Old Dominion and Caamp. She is a self-proclaimed Shawn Mendes super fan, but sadly has been unable to see him live in concert.
One of her favorite activities is a good movie night with her friends. Her top pick, and favorite movie, is “Pitch Perfect,” which, in my opinion, is a fantastic choice. Compton also tunes in to “Dancing With the Stars” every week and wants Julia Stiles to win.
She also enjoys a good trip to the thrift. Her favorite spot to thrift in the area is the Goodwill Bins near Harrisburg.
She is a self-proclaimed Shawn Mendes super fan, but sadly has been unable to see him live in concert.
Back home, Compton is a proud owner of two pitbulls, Sheek and Lucille.
At the end of my interview with Compton, I asked her to give me a piece of advice that she would like to share with everyone. Her advice is “Don’t regret saying yes, but know when to say no.” Take this advice with you wherever you may go. If you ever see Compton on campus, make sure to say hi!
